FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do we need an AML business risk assessment?+
UAE law requires DNFBPs to identify and assess their money-laundering and terrorist-financing risk and to apply controls proportionate to it. The enterprise-wide risk assessment is the foundation of the whole programme — without it, your policies and due diligence have no documented basis and fail inspection.
How is this different from customer due diligence?+
CDD assesses the risk of an individual customer; the business risk assessment looks at your whole operation — all customers, countries, products and channels together. The EWRA sets the framework that then drives how much due diligence each client receives.
How often should the risk assessment be updated?+
At least annually and whenever something material changes — new products, new markets, a different client mix or regulatory updates. We build a refresh cycle in so the assessment stays current and remains a living part of your compliance programme.
Will regulators actually ask to see it?+
Yes. The enterprise-wide risk assessment is one of the first documents a supervisor requests during an AML inspection, alongside your policies. A well-evidenced EWRA demonstrates that your risk-based approach is real, not theoretical.
