FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

When must we file an STR in the UAE?+
Whenever you have reasonable grounds to suspect a transaction involves proceeds of crime, money laundering or terrorist financing — including attempted transactions that never complete. The report must be filed on goAML without delay once suspicion is formed.
Is there a minimum amount that triggers an STR?+
No. An STR is driven by suspicion, not value. A small transaction can require reporting if it is suspicious, while a large one may not if it is fully explained. Separate threshold reports, like DPMSR, are a different obligation.
What information goes into an STR?+
The parties, the transaction details, the customer due diligence held, and a clear narrative explaining the grounds for suspicion. We make sure the report is complete and specific, as vague STRs are of little use to the FIU and can prompt follow-up.
Can the customer continue transacting after we file?+
Often yes, to avoid tipping off, unless the FIU directs otherwise or a freeze applies. We help you decide the right course case by case and document the reasoning.
